Well, it’s definitely not a bird and it sure ain’t no plane – even though there’s a distinct possibility that I just might be Superman. I do understand the question, though, so I’ll just clarify, once and for all: Insignificances most definitely is a blog – without a shadow of doubt, of course. The magazine layout is merely a way of having fun, as I’m equally – if not more – interested in presentation as in content. Now that we’ve cleared that misunderstanding out of the way: Welcome to Insignificances, my brand new blog, to succeed good old Irrelevances. My Norwegian blog will undergo the same transformation, too – or rather; it’ll be succeeded by a version very similar to this.
The reason for doing this is pretty simple, really. Altghough I rather like the simplicity of my two old blogs, the very obvious minimalism, I must admit that I’ve missed being able to tweak the design and to add widgets and stuff that WordPress.com simply doesn’t offer. While Insignificances too is published on the WordPress platform, it offers several options previously off limits.
Taking it one step further
By changing name from Irrelevances to Insignificances, I also signal an intention to publish less non-sense (however intentionally in the past) albeit not material of the utmost importance – which would be an improbability, coming from me. Still, now that I’m no longer contributing over at iNorden, on a regular basis, anyway, I’ll need an outlet for things that matter more than mere irellevances.
Why in English?
I’ve come to realise that the Norwegian blogosphere has become increasingly uninteresting – or rather: Decreasingly interesting, not to mention extremely introvert. It’s all about blogging, or about themselves, if you will, and I simply can’t be bothered anymore. Besides, I’ve always kept an English blog, since I first started some six years ago. Truth be told, my interests tend more towards global affairs anyway.
However, as mentioned earlier on, the Norwegian blog will be maintained, too, even if it’s probably on a somewhat sporadic basis.
I picked a hell of a time to launch this blog, by the way, looking at a couple of incredibly busy weeks ahead, which means updates will be sparse, I’m afraid, at least for a while. Please bear in mind that the posts you find here on launching day are put together in a hurry, simply to fill the front page, but I’ll get back to some serious blogging later on.
Apart from that: Welcome to Insignificances once more. Hope you’ll enjoy your stay.

I agree. The Norwegian blogosphere is just not interesting anymore. I never thought it was that interesting to begin with, to tell you the truth. I could never find the heart to follow more than five or ten Norwegian blogs. Today, I only follow two in Norwegian. What happened?
Congratulations,Petterson! I don`t know if it`s a blog or a magazine,but I sure like it.

Martin G.: I suppose we all had such high hopes back in the day, probably enthused by what we’d already seen achieved by Matt Drudge and the likes of him. There was actually some talk about bloggers having real impact around the turn of the millennium, and they did — everywhere but here. It would seem that these days it’s boiling down to not too clever fashion blogs and the so-called pro blogs, in addition to the same old same old, repeating themselves ad nauseam. What happened? I’m beginning to fear it didn’t.
Anne-Sophie: Spielen Sie vielleicht die Violine? Why thank you so very much! I’m really pleased that you approve. You know, looking at each and every post, there’s not a doubt that we’re dealing with a blog. The front page, on the other hand, is a different matter altogether, but yes: Actually, I think I like it, too. All in all.
Canute: Jawohl!
Not bad Jarle. You have got a very appealing design. And with your sense of quality, I guess the content will attract even more.

You’re only too kind, Fred Rune. But I’ll try, to the best of my ability, to write something of substance, once I get the time. Meanwhile I take great pleasure in reading your posts over at Hildring.
Oh, by the way: Before long I’ll have a Norwegian version of this up and about, too, so we won’t have to communicate in a foreign tongue. Does feel a little strange, wouldn’t you say?
Come to think of it: Our blogs do look a little alike now, don’t they… A mere coincidence, I assure you, but an interesting one, that only goes to prove that we see eye to eye on a number of matters — including design, it would appear.
