tamiler_stortinget

Following Norway’s inability to mediate a Sri Lankan/LTTE truce, Tamil refugees in the country have demonstrated for the better of the last fortnight, urging the Norwegian government to take action. The government’s assurances that it already does what it can, within limits, is unacceptable to the approximately 1000 Tamil protesters occupying Oslo streets – and the square in front of the Norwegian parliament, Stortinget – as seen in above photograph.

The still ongoing protests took a new turn on Sunday, as some 100 protesters made their way into the Sri Lankan embassy in order to demolish its interior, while the police were engaged elsewhere.

In an op-ed today the Sri Lankan newspaper The Island writes:

Sunday’s dastardly terrorist attack on the Sri Lanka Embassy in Oslo has demonstrated the ghastly extent of infiltration by LTTE terrorists of the so-called advanced democracies sheltering a gallimaufry of criminal outfits from the four corners of the world. What is really shocking is not so much the terror strike concerned as such but the inexcusable failure on the part of the Norwegian government to apprehend the perpetrators of that inexpiable criminal act, in spite of the availability of damning evidence. Equally baffling and intriguing is the deafening silence the international community is so nonchalantly maintaining on the apathetic and impervious conduct of Norway while frantically campaigning for restoring the rule of law elsewhere.

A news story brought by Norwegian daily Aftenposten.no today (in Norwegian), reports that Sri Lankas’ ambassador Esala Ruwan Weerakoon warns the Norwegian public of the eventuality that LTTE terrorist attacks may well be carried out on Norwegian soil, as a means to put further pressure on the country’s government. The Island’s op-ed continues:

[…] Those who sleep with dogs, it is popularly said in this country, have to get up with ticks. The same goes for those who sleep with Tigers. The price Norway has had to pay for sharing bed with the murderous Tigers is enormous. It has been reduced to a eunuch nation incapable of taking any action against the terrorists responsible for attacking a foreign mission on her soil. What a shame!

No amount of terrorism against Sir [Sic!] Lankan missions abroad will help Prabhakaran and his fellow terrorists escape. However, Sunday’s attack portends trouble for the so-called five star democracies which have become havens for terrorists. Terrorism is slowly but surely eating into their vitals. What Norway is experiencing at present are only symptoms. The worst is yet to come.

However, if ravaging the Sri Lankan embassy is the extent of the announced terrorist attacks, Norway’s public has little to fear, even if such conduct indeed is unacceptable.

Here’s my guess: The Aftenposten journalist was overcome with a desire to make headlines.

Apparently, so am I – with a compulsion to put yesterday’s mobile snapshot to good use, that is.

More on recent developments here (in Norwegian):

By the way, I’ve managed to track down some footage of (and probably by) the alleged terrorists:

Ida Linnea Lindegård (above) comments on the hullabaloo, remarking that Norway holds no responsibility for Sri Lanka’s internal problems, linking to a news story covering protesters outside our PM’s home.

Ida Linnea: Please forgive me for translating, but this is an “English spoken” blog. For Norwegian posts, please see Insignificances på norsk. But thanks for your comment, nevertheless.

I was not aware of the “fact” that Norway supported LTTE. In what way then? How much? Where? and why? This piece of shit newspaper is just like a muslim newspaper in the days of the muhammed-drawings. I rarely comment anymore on blogs and discussions but I just couldn’t shut up anymore. To long have these people been living of the hard work of the people who established the welfare-system that we are so fortunate to have. When will there ever be a demonstration infront of the parliament with the slogan “enough is enough”. If the do not like it here they can return to their own country. First we are being attacked by LTTE-supporters and now the Sri Lankan community are accusing us of suporting terrorists… FACTS, DICK***** !!!

We are tired of people that speak before they got the whole picture. My wish is that Norway leave these people to themselves so they can see how much the would miss us. Out with the fanatic “casesd” that demonstrated before the governmentbuilding.

    ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

  4. Jarle Petterson says:

So far we’ve only seen Tamil refugees exercising their right to express themselves, and a very unfortunate incident in the Sri Lankan Oslo embassy, Martin — the former something they’re fully entitled to, of course.

I very much doubt that the protesters intend to put Norwegian lives and properties in harm’s way, whereas the embassy, on the other hand, is enemy territory.

Also, I think we’d do well to recognise that these are desperate refugees, witnessing friends and relatives dying by the hands of Sri Lankan soldiers — or by sheer famine. Taking what measures deemed necessary to draw the world’s attention to the atrocities, only seems natural, under the circumstances. After all, desperate times call for desperate measures.

These protests are seen in numerous countries these days. The Sri Lankan press focus on Norway is related to our police’s failure to protect their embassy, which is quite understandable, too.

At any rate, I don’t think the Norwegian Tamil’s despair can be held against them.

As for war in general, I concur: Enough really is enough.

I’ve added a YouTube clip from the embassy vandalism (see end of original post).

Now I’m really beginning to fear you’re an old friend pulling my leg (I think he’ll appreciate that assertion).

  7. Martin G. says:

Jeg kan avsløre at det ikke er meg som skrev kommentarene over, Jarle. No fear.

  8. Jarle Petterson says:

Oh goody! What a relief. No snuggling with the Socialist Left Party, then, but you have to admit that the invitation had me wondering.

  9. suja says:

Tamils are normally silent and innocent people but Singhalese are normally arrogant people. Tamils have been killed and tortured by Singhalese from 1948 after Britain gave the power to the Singhalese. Tamils realized if they want to live without fear against this arrogant Singhalese, they had to form an army. That’s why LTTE was formed by Tamils to protect Tamils nation. LTTE is a freedom fighter.
The present situation in the Vanni region is very critical, around two hundreds people are killed and many more injured including women and children by Arrogant Singhala Government everyday. I cannot understand why International community still believes the false government propaganda. Everybody knows that Srilankan Government purposely banned all the independent media and International non-governmental organization to hide his Genocide against Tamils.
Tamils are killed every part of the country day by day in different ways like abduction, Tortured and murdered. There is no safe place for Tamils in Srilanka at present. Any time Tamils may be abducted by white van, which is operated by Kotapaya Rajapaksha who is defense Minister for Rajapaksha regiment.
International Community should realize the fact and make necessary action against Srilankan Government. Otherwise International Community should support to the Tamils for the separation. It is the only solution. Srilankan Government says that they are at the end of the war against LTTE. They believe that they will eliminate LTTE very soon but it will never happen in Tamil Ealam. All Tamils are LTTE. They cannot eliminate LTTE until one Tamil live in this world. We all will fight against this arrogant Singhala regiment in different ways to achieve our Tamil Ealam.

Sinhalese make violent and steal from Tamils since 1948. Tamils faced much violence by Singhalese from 1948- 1983. It has been continuing by Mahinda Rajapaksa and his brothers (Hitler) who kidnap Tamil businessmen and demanding for money. Kothapaya is in charge for this deal.

4000 Tamils were killed in southern of Srilanka in 1983. I lived in Colombo in 1983. I can’t forget those violent days. 99% Tamils forced to display to north part of Srilanka in 1983. Only solution to this problem is separation for peaceful life for both nations. That’s why Tamils formed an army, which is called LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) to protect Tamils from Singhala regiment.

Why don’t ask international community to Srilankan government to putdown arms and withdraw from Tamils homeland? Why do international community help to Srilanka to kill Tamils? Why international community support for one nation? Tamils are also human beings.

Please take immediate ceasefire in Srilanka and protect rest of the Tamils. Thirty years Tamils blood bath is enough, make a separation in srilanka.

I’m sick and tired of Norwegians like Martin who eats up headlines like this for breakfast. Is it a curiosity then that FRP is leading the polls in Norway? People like Martin who are SO **** afraid of people different than him, with other beliefs, protesting the killing of their relatives – if it was happening to YOUR people in YOUR country while you were living abroad, I don’t think you’d be silent either. Respect the freedom of expression, if you don’t like it, go live in a dictatorship, this is a democracy!

  12. Jarle Petterson says:

Noc, I’d like to draw your attention towards this blog post, of today, actually, describing my perception of where we’re headed with all this.

The immediate future is not a pretty sight, if the predominant attitude develops further, that is. Which, I’m afraid, it will.

  13. kligon says:

These tamil LTTE terrorists sympathaizers should get into their thick brainless heads, that there will Never Ever be any “Tamil Ellam” within the territory of “The Republic of Sri Lanka”.
    Thats the only truth……..!

  14. s says:

i see somebody blame norway and tell everybody can protest and do whatever they want to do here, when its “war” in their country at hoe. thats bullshit ! Norway should not pay for destroyed property for what this people destroy in their actions. if i was in another country and norway had a war , then i would not destroy the embsaay, or go and mike fights and fire in the other country(its not their fault). then i should keep it inside me or go back to norway to fight ! as should theese people too.
its no excuse to make more problems in another country for what happens in your own country.
if they come to norway to get away from problems in their own country, then dont take the problems with you. then you dont have reason to be here and can go back and continuing there what your suppose to run away from

From all these gossips, its very very clear that the SL-emabssy in Oslo had people to spread falsehood and nonsense, of course the payments are very attractive, I was told. In the end, it’s the truth that will prevail and these men of dishonesty and evill minds will fad away.
