Our house was packed with five and six year-old girls yesterday, celebrating our daughter’s sixth birthday (on Monday). Needless to say, it was pink all over, with Bratz and Littlest Petshop gifts.
After all, there’s no denying it: Girls that age adore everything… well, adorable and sweet, but a few things have changed over the last couple of decades (if you know my native tongue, here’s something I posted on the matter last summer).

As I mentioned in my last post, there’s a fierce debate going on in Norwegian blog land, with harsh words and a wide range of accusations – as usual, whenever feminists are involved. But it’s quite the proverbial storm in a cup, really, as the discussions are restricted to a very limited core of bloggers, whose impact on the public debate is less than insignificant, I’m afraid. Which is all good and proper, as the debate’s level of reasoning serves neither parties.

As we all know, American presidential and vice presidential spouses usually tend to take the back seat, if, for a moment, we allow ourselves to ignore former first lady Hillary R. Clinton. Sarah Palin’s run for vice presidency may well change that, assuming the McCain/Palin campaign succeeds, that is.
