Barbara Jo Briner, D.O., Age 72 made her transition to be with her Lord, surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, October 12, 2019.

She was born in Grove City, PA, the daughter of the late Drs. Donald and Betty Briner.

Barbara is survived by her siblings: Thomas (Melissa), William, and Beth Gibbs (Rick), three children: Armando J. Briner, Julian J. Briner and Maria J. Briner, several nieces and nephews, and her two cats Tommy and Bindi.

She graduated from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1974 and spent most of her professional life in the Lansing area. From 1983-1988, she taught, practiced, and did research through MSU's College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSU-COM) in Manipulative Medicine, Dept. of Family Medicine/Biomechanics. During this time, she developed and taught courses in Osteopathy in the Cranial Field, worked with undergraduate and post-graduate students, in Muscle Energy, Myofascial Release, and Cranio-Mandibular Disorders. Barbara was responsible for curricular changes that currently are in place at MSU-COM. She held high offices in the American Academy of Osteopathy, became a Life Member in 1989, and received other professional awards. She continued her teaching of post-graduates through MSU-COM Continuing Medical Education until recently.

In 1988, Dr. Briner opened her private practice in Okemos, opened the Institute for Bioenergy Studies (1993), and from 2005 until recently, was PLC in her practice of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and Energy. Barbara founded the National Association of Esoteric Healers (NAEH), establishing teacher training standards in Esoteric Healing, and was known both nationally and internationally in energy medicine.

Barbara enjoyed spending time watching movies, playing cards, laughing, and eating pizza with her beloved children. Time with them in Traverse City brought her great joy, and she will be deeply missed by them. She enjoyed gardening, nature, reading (both pleasure and professional), was a Sci-Fi fan extraordinaire, and a great cook. She will be sorely missed by those who loved her.

Visitation will be held at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home in East Lansing on Saturday, November 16 at 10 a.m., followed by her Celebration of Life service at 11a.m, with the Rev. Dr. V. Dianne Ulibarri officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara's memory to the Lansing Capital Humane Society, or to Song of the Morning Yoga Retreat, 9607 E. Sturgeon Valley Rd., Vanderbilt, MI 49795.
